Rope drop at California Adventure: choose your first land

Make one decision before you arrive

Pick the ride your group would most regret missing, then decide whether you will use standby, Single Rider or a paid entry. Those choices matter more than following one fixed route. Check height requirements and whether everyone is comfortable splitting up.

Before opening

• Check the park’s opening time and your starting-park reservation. Allow a 45–60-minute turnstile buffer if being near the front matters to you, plus time for parking and security.
• Have breakfast and tickets ready. Gates may admit guests before rides open; follow Cast Member directions.
• If you have Multi Pass, make the first selection after entering and keep its return window in mind.

Route A: Cars Land

If Radiator Springs Racers is a priority, head there while the queue is still acceptable. It is a Single Pass attraction, not part of Multi Pass. If it opens late, choose another operating ride rather than spending the whole morning waiting for a reopening. Afterward, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree keep you in the same land.

Route B: Avengers Campus

If Racers is covered by a Single Pass—or not a priority—start with Guardians of the Galaxy, then check WEB SLINGERS nearby. Seasonal versions and operating hours can change; use the names and statuses shown in the live box.

Route C: Pixar Pier

For a morning around the pier, start with Toy Story Midway Mania! and consider Incredicoaster next if everyone meets the height requirement. This route also works if you prefer to avoid the opening rush toward Racers. Compare waits before crossing the park for Soarin’.

When to change the plan

Treat the first hour as a flexible route, not a timed checklist. A down ride, a long walk or a tired child is a reason to pick the next nearby option. Do not assume a low standby wait tells you which Lightning Lane reservations will sell out first.
